We are delighted to share this report of additional classes for juniors at 2019 hound shows in the United Kingdom.Press Release -
March 15th 2019 - For immediate release: Exciting news for young hunting enthusiasts in Britain – New young handler classes to be introduced at The Harrogate Hound show and Lycetts Festival of Hunting, Peterborough. Building on the popularity of the now well established young handler’s class at the West of England hound show, Honiton.

Inspired by North American Hound Shows and in response to the success and popularity of the young handlers class established at the West of England hound show Honiton, the organisers of The Harrogate hound show and the Lycetts Festival of Hunting held at Peterborough have decided to hold their own classes in 2019 for young hunting enthusiasts from all hunts exhibiting at these shows.

With so many young people helping at kennels with hounds this provides an ideal opportunity for the young to demonstate the skills they have learnt. They will to be judged on their ability to encourage a hound to extend across the ring and stand on the flagstones assisted by an experienced senior steward who will act as their assistant. The judges will ask the competitors about the hound’s breeding. They will also be asked about their work at kennels and how long they have helped.

All competitors' names will appear in the hound show catalogue and will receive a commemorative rosette in recognition of their participation at the shows. The winners will be presented with hunting horns and keepsakes. Through the generosity of such hunting names as Farquhar and Wallace donating trophies for the winners of the different classes, competition can be expected to be very strong this coming summer.

Reflecting the views of many, Richard Walton said of the classes at Honiton: “To watch the passion, professionalism and clear dedication to hounds and hunting of our young competitors at Honiton demonstates the passing of the batton to a younger generation." Richard added, “No doubt to watch these young people compete at such prestigious shows, recognised for their skills and encouraged by older hunting enthusiasts will be a tonic for both young and old.”
