The eighth annual Southern Hound Show, held on April 5th at Live Oak Plantation in Monticello, Florida, began with overcast skies and the threat of rain, which kept temperatures moderate for the morning classes.
This year’s judges were Mr. Nigel Peel, MFH North Cotswold Hunt, and Mrs. Linda Jenkins Armbrust, MFH Blue Ridge Hunt. Mr. Franklin Whit Foster, MFH Green Spring Valley Hounds, was the apprentice judge. Mr. Peel said that he was very impressed with the levelness and amount of quality he saw in every class.
As is the custom, all hound types are judged together in one ring, as also happens at the Canadian Hound Show. Seven packs showed (the same number that showed in the 35 couple or more in the Crossbred ring at Virginia in 2012).
Past Grand Champions of this show may not show in any class that qualifies for a championship.
The Grand Champion, Live Oak Dandy ’12, was also Champion English, Champion Dog Hound, and winner of Stallion Hound. His sire, Live Oak Maximus ’09, is a past Grand Champion of Show in Virginia (2010).
The Reserve Grand Champion of Show, Live Oak Fanfare ‘10, was also Reserve Champion English and Champion Bitch.
