Juniors Beat the Cold at Elkridge-Harford

Braving frigid early winter temperatures, 60 junior riders bundled up and turned out for Elkridge-Harford Hunt Club’s (EHHC) children’s hunt last Thanksgiving weekend. New Master Joe Davies, whose son helped take the field, hosted the meet from Dunmore Farm near Monkton, MD.

Hanley Broadus, 10, Carries On Family Tradition

At just ten years old, Hanley Broadus' passion for horses and foxhunting is deep-rooted within her family. Her grandmother is Valerie Nahorniak, originally from Minnesota, who first hunted with Warrenton (VA) in 1972 and was a member of Rolling Rock Hunt (PA) from 1989 to 2014. She became a member of Long Run Woodford Hounds (KY) in 1996 and is still a member today, along with her daughter and granddaughter.

Cedar Knob Pony Club Holds Day of Volunteering

We have a great group of Pony Club members who are always thinking of ways they can help others. Zachary and Jacob Wallace, two of our Cedar Knob Pony Club and Cedar Knob Hounds members (who also play interscholastic polo for Franklin Polo Academy), were playing in a benefit arena match for Saddle Up Therapeutic Riding Center in October. After the match, kids from Saddle Up came to love on their polo ponies, and at that point, a day was planned for the Cedar Knob Pony Club members to volunteer and help at Saddle Up.

For Isabelle Powers, Just Competing Is a Victory

Like dozens of other young foxhunters across the country, Isabelle Powers of Midland Fox Hounds (GA) worked hard to qualify for the Junior North American Field Hunter Championships earlier this month. Simply being able to compete at the finals was a tremendous victory for her, her mother Lisa, and their support team, though: Isabelle had been diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in April, and underwent taxing chemotherapy treatment through the late spring and summer.

Old Dominion Hosts Junior North American Field Hunter Championships

Old Dominion Hounds hosted the 16th annual Junior North American Field Hunter Championships on November 10 as the finals returned to Virginia for the first time since 2015. Determined children from hunts across the country braved blustery winds and cold temperatures to contest the judged mock hunts and individual tests at the Albert P. & Katherine Steedman Hinckley Memorial Hunter Trial Field near Orlean. As always, the weekend included evening social events, awards, and the opportunity to hunt together for fun in support of the JNAFHC mission.

"One Makes a Difference:" Storer Discusses Juniors at Ashland Bassets Dinner

The Ashland Bassets (VA) held their annual Fundraiser Dinner in Hume, VA on September 29, 2018. Along with dozens of fantastic silent auction items and a lavish buffet meal, the evening featured remarks by Alasdair Storer, huntsman at New Market-Middletown Valley Hounds (MD) and also huntsman and Master of the Middletown Beagles. His presentation focused on techniques to engage children in our sport, reflecting the vibrant junior program he has nurtured at both packs.
