On November 8, Old Dominion Hounds hosted the 13th Junior North American Field Hunter Championships, bringing together young foxhunters from across the country. We have results from all three divisions.

Final pin 2 JNAFHC Logo Participant MFHA sponsored special pin to be awarded to all finalists from all the PC districts when they competed in VA. Additionally the winners of first place in the three divisions were awarded with a distinctly different pin and a junior membership to the MFHA.

Old Dominion Hounds invited all entries to their meet Saturday morning, and their Pony Club sponsored a casual dinner/dance reception Saturday night at Alwyngton Manor in Warrenton. The Championships consisted of three divisions, Hilltoppers, Jumping (12yo & Under), and Jumping (13yo & Older), and included three components:  an Under Saddle class, a judged mock hunt, and for the top ten riders, an individual test. The beautiful and challenging course was laid out at the Albert P. & Katherine Steedman Hinckley Memorial Hunter Trial Field in Marshall.

Dr. Carroll "Bear" Johnston presented the inaugural Lynda Johnston Perpetual Spirit Award, in memory of his late wife, who passed away last February. Lynda Johnston was a tireless supporter of juniors in the field, and shared with them a love of the open countryside so essential to our sport.  This award recognizes "exceptional sportsmanship, horsemanship, and dedication to the sport of foxhunting," and is given to a "deserving junior who learns, and shares the enthusiasm for hunting that Lynda Johnston gave us all." This year's recipient is Lucy Arnold, representing Old Dominion Hounds.

Riot's Maeve, the striking gray registered Cleveland Bay ridden to the Hilltopper championship by Brighton Craig, was bred by Brighton's mother. Owned by Maggie Johnston, the mare also competed last spring in the sidesaddle races at Oatlands Plantation near Leesburg, Virginia.

Ninety(!!!) kids qualified for the final day, and it was a truly amazing sight to see all of them together, on beautifully behaved and well-turned out ponies and horses. A real testament to their dedication, preparation and, probably, parental support.Awesome parents!
Every one of those equines is worth its weight in gold, even if they didn't get picked for the top 10(15 in the one jumping group, because there were SO many!). I was in awe.
