"The hills were alive with the sound of music" as guest huntsman, Andrew Marren, and his pack of Montreal hounds hunted the north shores of Lake Ontario in south central Ontario. This was the fourth invitational hunt that Beaver Meadow has hosted and the hounds, quarry and weather did not disappoint.
Members from Montreal Hunt, Lake of Two Mountains Hunt, Ottawa Valley Hunt, Wellington-Waterloo Hunt and Beaver Meadow Foxhounds all joined in three days of great sport and camaraderie. Masters and huntsmen attending included Roger Deslaurier and Maurizio Favretto from Montreal Hunt with huntsman Andrew Marren; Richard Glaude from Lake of Two Mountains Hunt with huntsman Francois Seguin; Anne McKibbin, Grits McMullan and Peter Leach, Masters from Ottawa Valley; and John Curtis and Marion Castleton from Beaver Meadow with huntsman Jamie Hughes.
The three-day invitational included seventy plus enthusiasts enjoying a Friday morning hunt, beginning with all hunt staff being piped in procession to a stirrup cup provided by John Curtis, MFH Beaver Meadow, at the Dekeyser/Greydaunus property followed by a hunt breakfast. Saturday was a leisurely day for participants to enjoy the sights in the area. Saturday evening, a gala dinner was held at Momentum Farm, hosted by Master and huntsman from Beaver Meadow, Jamie Hughes. After good food, drinks and great conversation, gala goers enjoyed dancing to Beaver Meadow member Greg McEwan's band. Early Sunday morning, eighty plus foxhunters were in the saddle riding the gorgeous hills of Northumberland on a perfect day. Stirrup Cup was hosted by Marion Castleton, MFH Beaver Meadow, and hounds spoke loudly and often on a tremendous day. Before the weekend closed, a sumptuous buffet breakfast was consumed at the Best Western hotel in Cobourg.
Great sport was enjoyed by all, and until we meet again in two years' time -- Tally Ho!!
