As part of the MFHA's season-long Hark Forward program to build camaraderie and support renovation of our new headquarters, Chagrin Valley Hunt (OH) hosted a special joint meet last weekend. The Chagrin Valley Beagles (OH) offered sport on Friday. The traditional blessing of the hounds ceremony preceded Chagrin Valley's Saturday meet, and then visiting Traders Point Hunt (IN) hounds led riders on a drag hunt on Sunday.

Traders Point Master, Tom Santelli, reported: "This past weekend, we celebrated the 90th Anniversary Blessing of the Hounds with the Chagrin Valley Hunt. Recognized as one of the oldest blessings of the foxhounds in the United States, Traders Point put on a wonderful weekend of beagling, parties and foxhunting."

Santelli highlighted the unique family connection between the weekend's huntsmen. "Of particular note, Chagrin Valley huntsman, Mark McManus, hunted their hounds on Saturday - and his son, Aran, huntsman at Traders Point, carried the horn with our visiting pack on Sunday. How often do we have the opportunity to have a family of huntsman hunting back to back?"

Chagrin Valley member and participant Jessica Roslan added, "One of the most spectactular sporting life weekends that can be spent in northeast Ohio surrounds the Chagrin Valley Hunt Blessing. Three days of outdoor immersion opens with a beagle foot hunt in Gates Mills with Joint Masters of Beagles and Huntsman Mark McManus and Laura Robinson Mock. This endeavor was followed by a delectible dinner at the the Chagrin Valley Hunt Club.

"Day two opened with a live hunt in Geauga County. The field included members from five different hunts. Thanks to the efforts of this morning's tailgate lunch, most everyone recovered quickly despite the oppressive heat. A great time was most definitely had by all. Friends reconvened at the hunt club to enjoy another fabulous dinner in the evening, complete with an auction to name the newest beagle puppies!"
