Montreal Hunt Celebrates New Season at Bromont

Our sport spans the continent, and while southerners are still fighting heat and humidity, packs in northern climes are already out in the field. In Canada, the Montreal Hunt celebrated the start of the season with a parade of hounds in the international show jumping ring at the Bromont Olympic Equestrian Park.

Welcome Home: New MFHA Headquarters Officially Open in Middleburg

Foxhunters often describe how important our sport is, not only to its immediate participants, but to all the members of the surrounding community. With the opening of our new headquarters, right on the main street of a premiere equestrian town just a short drive from Washington, D.C., we indeed have an accessible, visible presence that is welcoming to all.

Engaging Youth, Preserving Habitat, Funding Initiatives, Enjoying our Sport: Over the past seven years, Deep Run Hunt Club has hosted and organized a Junior Hound Camp. This program started with a conversation and blossomed into an annual anticipated attraction. In the next few paragraphs we will provide you with our experiences and offer you a template for your club to start a camp.

From Middleburg to Morven Park, a Celebration of Sport

Memorial Day weekend has long been synonymous with the largest hound show in North America, the Virginia Foxhound Show, with competitors and spectators arriving from across the continent. This year, the much-anticipated grand opening of the new MFHA Headquarters and Museum building was an additional reason to celebrate. The Board was able to conduct business in a purpose-designed space, visitors enjoyed the beautiful grounds, and a full day of spectacular hounds capped off the weekend with a dam-daughter duo taking the top spots on Sunday.

Beeman Receives Julian Marshall Award at Bryn Mawr

On May 31 at the packed Radnor Hunt Club (PA) clubhouse, Dr. Marvin Beeman, DVM, Master and longtime huntsman at Arapahoe Hunt (CO) was named the 2019 recipient of the Julian M. Marshall Award. Presenting the award with show President L. Stockton Illoway, MB, Betsy Marshall commented that Dr. Beeman has dedicated his life to hounds and hunting - just like her father. At the show the next day, Dr. Beeman also judged the overall Foxhound Champion and Best in Show, as well as the inaugural Foxhounds Huntsman's Performance Class.

Red Oak Foxhounds: Small Hunt, Big Results

We are a small hunt, so our hounds need to do it all - hunting, of course, and performance trials, and hound shows. I also just about have to do it all - huntsman, kennelman, vet, joint master, honorary secretary, and chief cook! We do have great friends, Barry and Linda Vanfleet, that come down from PA and live here September through April. Barry whips in and comes down every morning and helps me with kennel chores. Linda is a truck whip. We love it!
