Situated in the heart of Piedmont’s legendary territory against the backdrop of the Blue Ridge, under a beautiful autumn sky, the new event saw 86 horses and riders compete over a course of traditional jumps set on sturdy, yet undulating turf.

“Piedmont wanted to host an event where people could bring their horses and compete over an old-style outside course, part of the history and tradition of our sport,” said Barbara Riggs, chair of the event. “When we started planning, we weren’t sure how it would all turn out, so we are very pleased with the support from sponsors, our community, and riders bringing their horses.”

Missing Hound Live Oak Charter Recovered

Charter in crateWayne Van Sant photoLive Oak Charter was safely captured in Middleburg, VA September 17, 2014. In May, Charter and Live Oak Perfect escaped from the Virginia Hound Show at Morven Park, Leesburg, VA.

Perfect was captured, while Charter remained on the loose near the Middleburg Tennis Club, roughly 20 miles from Morven Park. Piedmont Huntsman Spencer Allen and members of the community banded together and kept watch over the area over the past four months, leaving food out for Charter in hopes of luring him into a trap.

Middleburg area residents Nancy Milburn Kleck and Wayne Van Sant were able to catch Charter using a three door trap that Wayne modified. They set up a stakeout and were ultimately successful in their endeavor.

Charter is now receiving much needed veterinary care.
