Hound Show Happenings

The annual hound shows bring the foxhunting community together for educational purposes, to evaluate the quality of hounds, and to facilitate discussion and sharing of ideas about our beloved sport.

Museum of Hounds and Hunting Presents Wallace Nall — From Imagination and From Life

There is still time to view Wallace Nall – From Imagination and From Life, and exhibit which includes paintings from 1971 to 2003. More than 50 paintings are included in this exhibition, all lent from local private collections. Many are commissioned portraits, some of which have never been publicly displayed. Also on view are a few of Nall’s sketches, his preparatory photos and boyhood memorabilia. A favorite sporting artist of the local horse community, Nall chronicled horses, hounds and people, using his artistic talents to create enduring visual narratives.

The exhibit runs through June 28. The Museum of Hounds and Hunting NA is located in the Morven Park Mansion, 17263 Southern Plantation Lane Leesburg, VA 20176.

National Sporting Library Presents the Dynamic Role of Lady Masters May 23

On May 23, the Saturday before the Virginia Foxhound Club Show, join the National Sporting Library for a candid round table discussion with Lady Masters of Foxhounds. The discussion focuses on experiences from the field told by women with years of hunting leadership and features panelists Daphne Wood, MFH Live Oak Hounds, Joyce Fendley, MFH Casanova Hunt, Lynn Lloyd, MFH Red Rocks Hounds, Marion Thorne, MFH Genesee Valley Hunt, and Penny Denegre, MFH Middleburg Hunt.

2015 Live Oak Hounds USPC Foxhunting Challenge Awards Recognize Junior Foxhunters Nationwide

The ninth annual Live Oak Hounds USPC Foxhunting Challenge Award is made possible through the generous support of Mr. and Mrs. C. Martin Wood III, Joint Masters of the Live Oak Hounds in Monticello, Florida, and Past Presidents of the MFHA. The Award is designed to encourage Pony Club members who do not regularly hunt to try the sport, and to reward members who hunt on a regular basis to act as mentors to the less-experienced Pony Club members. $10,000 in awards will go to the top six Pony Clubs who regularly take the greatest number of active Pony Club members out hunting.

Congratulations to the 2015 Challenge winners:

  • 1st Place: Old Dominion Hounds Pony Club in Virginia who hunted with Old Dominion Hounds.
  • 2nd Place: Green Spring Hounds Pony Club in Maryland who hunted with Green Springs Valley Hounds, Elkridge Harford Hunt and Mt. Carmel Hounds.
  • Tied for 3rd Place: Elkridge-Harford Pony Club in Maryland who hunted with Elkridge-Harford Hunt; and Moore County Pony Club in North Carolina who hunted with Moore County Hounds.

US Pony Clubs Foxhunting Exchange Deadline Extended

ATTENTION FOXHUNTERS:

Are you 16 to 25 years old and certified C+ or above?

The USPC 2015 Foxhunting Exchange deadline has been extended to May 30th!

The Exchange runs October 22-30, 2015 –in the greater Lexington, KY area, with assistance by both the Iroquois and Woodford Hunts. Teams from the Irish Pony Club and the Pony Club UK will join with the US team for 10 days of hunting and fun!
